Cardington FFA recognized

The Ohio FFA Association of the National FFA organization (composed of 52 state associations, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) was established in 1929. Since then, each year it has hosted a State FFA Convention, bringing together delegates and students from chapters across Ohio to celebrate some of the state’s top members and collaborate on business affecting the association. This year was no different as the Ohio FFA hosted the 96th State FFA Convention at the Ohio State Fair and Expo Center May 2-3.

Trash Bash raffle winners announced

Morrow County’s Trash Bash Total Solar Eclipse helped to build a community of care during April’s litter pick-up. Since 2020 and due to the COVID years, Morrow County’s annual litter pick-up has dropped in participation, resulting in yearly averages of 353 volunteers cleaning up 89 miles of road.

Ceremonies to take place in Cardington, Fulton

The annual Memorial Day festivities have been planned for both Cardington and Fulton for Monday, May 27.

On May 6, the Morrow County Board of Commissioners made a proclamation of “National Correctional Officers and Employees Week.” The commissioners acknowledged and recognized the efforts of the Morrow County corrections officers and employees for their role in safeguarding the citizens of Morrow County by providing safe, secure, and humane incarceration of offenders within the county custody. They asked “citizens of Morrow County to be sure to express your gratitude for those who serve as a crucial pillar in our public safety systems.” Pictured (left to right) are Commissioner Tim Siegfried, Commissioner Tim Abraham, corrections officer Ryan McCarty and Commissioner Jon Mason. McCarty is an officer at the Morrow County Correctional Facility.

Genealogy Society honors First Families

At its April 27 First Families Luncheon held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead, the Morrow County Genealogical Society (MCGC) recognized the accomplishments of five members who traced the early origins of their ancestors in Morrow County.

At the Morrow County Board of Commissioners May 1 meeting, staff from seven local agencies came to support Morrow County Family Health Center’s presentation for Mental Health Awareness Month in May.

Village, students team up on Arbor Day

Village of Mount Gilead officials are pictured with Tri-Rivers Career Center students outside the Morrow County Correctional Facility and Sheriff’s Office. In honor of Arbor Day on April 26, the group cleaned up the grounds around the facility and the Morrow County Dog Shelter. A tree was also planted at the shelter.
