Northmor announces reduced meal program

The Northmor Local School District has announced its 2024-25 program year policy for free and reduced lunch-priced meals for students unable to pay the full price of meals or milk served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast, After School Care Snack, or Special Milk programs. Each school office and the central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party.

Kelly given citizen commendation

Don Kelly was surrounded by family and friends on July 9 at Woodside Village Care Center in Mount Gilead as he received a commendation from the Ohio House of Representatives upon reaching his 101st birthday.

MOESC holds Teacher Boot Camps

This summer, educators from districts in Crawford, Morrow, and Richland counties had the opportunity to participate in the second annual Teacher Boot Camps. Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC)’s Business Advisory Council and Workforce Development and Chamber of Commerce partners in each county organized these programs to show teachers what goes on behind the scenes in businesses and manufacturing in each county through tours of local facilities. Participants gained first-hand experience with the rewarding careers available in manufacturing and technology and the skills students need to obtain and retain these local positions.

MCHD, MCH team up to tackle tobacco use

The Morrow County Hospital (MCH) is a small community hospital and is the only one in Morrow County. Within 24 hours of an in-patient stay, MCH screens in-patients on their smoking status regardless of their diagnoses or reason for admission and not just those suffering from respiratory disease. During an inpatient stay, patients who smoke are offered nicotine replacement therapy to help with the craving for nicotine. Upon discharge, the respiratory therapy team provides counseling to current smokers, but there is no tobacco cessation program in place to offer patients who want to quit.

Bennington Glen joined the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, alongside The Alzheimer’s Association, on June 21, which is considered The Longest Day®. It is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. The Longest Day participants fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s and all other dementia through a fundraising activity of their choice on a day that works for them. Bennington Glen staff and residents hosted a bake sale in the front lobby on June 21 and raised $250 to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association. The bake sale table was organized and tended by 11-year-old Isabelle Osborne. On July 8, Amy File was presented with the donation of $250 from the bake sale. Public meeting to focus on proposed SR 229, SR 61 Intersection Improvement Project

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) would like to invite the public to an upcoming meeting to receive input on improvements that have been developed to address safety issues at the intersection of state Route (SR) 229 and SR 61 located west of the village of Marengo in Bennington Township, Morrow County.

Zoo to host Lantern Festival

POWELL, Ohio – This Canada Day, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is excited to announce a friendly new face hailing from our neighbor to the north. Johnson, a male Asian elephant, arrived early Friday evening from African Lion Safari in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.

State funding to aid local projects

The Ohio House of Representatives recently passed Substitute House Bill 2, the state’s two-year construction budget for capital projects throughout the state. The capital budget will make historic investments in local community projects, announced state Rep. Riordan McClain (R-Upper Sandusky).
