5th Quarter event set for Feb. 10


The Cardington-Lincoln Alumni Association will be hosting a 5th Quarter at the Cardington American Legion, located at 307 Park Ave., on Saturday, Feb. 10. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

ODNR to open next wetlands stamp contest


The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is calling on artists to get ready for the next Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp contest. Established in 1982, Ohio’s duck stamp program is one of the nation’s longest-running and most successful.

MOESC welcomes new board members


The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) had three board members who were recently elected to a new four-year term and received their oath of office during the organizational meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Those members included Brad Geissman, William Hope, and Douglas Theaker.

AMBER Alert texts to change


COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio AMBER Alert Advisory Committee is announcing a recent change to how the public will receive notifications when Ohio’s AMBER Alert system is activated. Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs), which are emergency messages that are broadcast to enabled mobile devices, are now capable of transmitting 360-character text messages in addition to the traditional 90-character text messages. This change is due to increased technology by both wireless carriers and wireless device manufacturers.

New business opens in Marengo


Universal Shield Insurance Group officially arrived in Morrow County on Friday. A property and casualty insurer for small businesses, the business was founded in 2003 and now has four offices spread across two states: Ohio (Dublin and Marengo) and Michigan (Hudsonville and Waterford).

Program to help residents save for home


Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague has announced the official launch of Ohio Homebuyer Plus, a new savings program designed to encourage homeownership in the Buckeye State. As of Jan. 8, eligible Ohio residents can open enhanced interest savings accounts at participating financial institutions.

Be on lookout for bald eagles


Winter is an excellent time to watch for bald eagles, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Bald eagles begin courtship and nest-building activity in January and February, making now one of the best times to view them.

The Mount Gilead Exempted Village Schools Board of Education held its organizational meeting Jan. 2.

Highland to celebrate Winter Homecoming


On Friday, Highland Student Council will sponsor Winter Homecoming 2024 activities. The homecoming ceremony will take place directly after the boys JV basketball game against Shelby. The Homecoming Court includes freshmen attendants Ava Williams and Kane Stover, sophomores Kylee Beal and Rhett Russell, and juniors Faith Gantz and Darrian Rollison. Queen candidates are Megan Decker, Kaymi Lewis and Morgan Snider. King candidates are Dane Nauman, Manny Parsley and Aron West.
