The Central District released its all-district basketball teams and a number of Morrow County competitors were recognized.

Cardington girls’ basketball coach Jamie Edwards was tabbed as the Division III Coach of the Year after leading his Pirate team to a 22-4 record and appearance in the district finals.

One of Edwards’ players, Sage Brannon, was named to the first team. Brannon, a 5’4” sophomore, tallied 12.4 points per game. Also, both Kynlee Edwards and Kyndall Spires were picked as honorable mention recipients.

A number of local players also received honorable mention in Hope Hack of Mount Gilead, as well as Karalee Patterson and Maddi Swihart, both of Northmor.

In boys’ basketball, Mount Gilead’s Zack Hosack was named to the second team in Division III. Hosack, a 5’5” junior, averaged 11.1 points per game. Picked to the third team from the Indians was Tyler Bland, who scored 14.8 points as a 6’2” junior.

Deondre Cook was an honorable mention pick from MG. Three Northmor players were also named honorable mention in Demetrius Johnson, Tyler Kegley and Brock Pletcher.

Devin Pearl, a 6’4” junior from Cardington who tallied 14.1 points per game, was named to the third team in Division IV. Teammates Derek Goodman and Trey Williams both received honorable mention recognition.

In Division II, Highland’s Alex Mason was named honorable mention.

Girls’ Basketball All-Ohio

One Cardington girl received All-Ohio recognition, when those teams were released last week.

Sophomore Sage Brannon was named special mention in Division III to cap off her season, which featured being named to the first team by both the Central District and Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference.
