Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission has partnered with many community members to develop Drug and Alcohol Awareness and Prevention (DAAP) of Morrow County. DAAP is a group made up of local organizations, agencies and community members, bringing drug and alcohol awareness to the community of Morrow County, through educational programs, speakers and organized events.

DAAP’s second event took place on March 1 at the Mt. Gilead High School Gym for seventh and eighth grade students in Morrow County.

Five schools bused their students to the event for guest speaker Ty Sells, who presented The Power of Acceptance. Sells is a graduate of the Ohio State University and works for the drug prevention, youth leadership program, Youth to Youth International.

He has spoken at hundreds of school assemblies and presented conference keynotes throughout the world. Sells engaged the students with his humor, but the message to challenge students to make positive choices in regards to substance abuse, was received. The presentation focused on positive choices instead of negative consequences.

DAAP meets once a month at 55 N. Cherry St. in Mt. Gilead. The next meeting will take place on March 17 from noon – 1 p.m.
