County schools benefit from Syntero team

Morrow County Chamber of Commerce members heard a report at their Sept. 19 meeting by two mental health professionals from Syntero, Inc. who are dedicated to seeing students in the four Morrow County public school districts.

Northmor grad takes 1st at Big E

Over the weekend, 2022-23 senior Jed Adams, our former Northmor FFA president, competed in the Prepared Public Speaking CDE at the Big E (Eastern States Exposition). The Big E is an invitation only event in which speakers and other CDE participants from eastern states, as well as a few midwestern states, are invited to compete against some of the best speakers in the region.

Highland Homecoming Court

Highland’s 62nd annual Homecoming will be held Friday, Oct. 6. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. prior to the football game against River Valley.

TEACH grants impacting local students

READY FOR HIRE programs to continue

Last June, the Ohio Department of Education selected and awarded $89 million in Summer Learning and Afterschool Opportunities Grants to 161 community-based partners out of more than 700 applications from across the state. Locally, $1.9 million was awarded in two grants to Succeed, Prosper, Ashland, Richland, Crawford (SPARC ) Council, one to create summer programming in summer 2022, 2023, and 2024, and one to create after-school programming, with fiscal oversight from Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center.

Mt. Gilead FFA attends retreat

The 2023-2024 Mt. Gilead FFA officer team, alongside our adviser, had our annual officer retreat from June 26-28. We used this time to bond as a leadership team and plan for the coming school year.

Cardington FFA welcomes new members

The Cardington FFA officer team held a new member orientation on July 31 that both welcomed and inaugurated freshmen through various activities. These activities had basic aspects of being a member in FFA, reflected by the CDE matching station, as well as entertaining activities that encouraged new members to build social and team skills, such as in the “obstacle course,” where members were encouraged to show leadership by guiding their partner through obstacles.

MOESC, Ohio Dept. of Education join forces

The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) was one of four of Ohio’s educational service centers to secure an Ohio Department of Education bid to serve in Gov. Mike DeWine’s Building Regional Capacity to Support Ohio’s Literacy Coaching Model literacy project.
