Highland, Cardington win Friday baseball games

The Highland baseball team cruised past host Fredericktown on Friday, earning an 11-1 win over the Freddies.

The Scots picked up 11 hits on the day, including two doubles by Jayden Collins and a double and single from Kort Sears. Jace Brooks added three singles and Hayden Kline added two singles. Brooks was the winning pitcher, as he, Kline and Evan Johnson combined to pitch a one hitter. They struck out eight and walked two.

With the win, head baseball coach Donnie Kline became the program’s all-time win leader. His total of 176 wins moves him in front of current assistant coach Travis Church’s total of 175.

Cardington Pirates

Cardington picked up a 9-6 win over visiting Fairbanks in Friday baseball game.

Merek McClure, Cadin Dewitt and Cameron Haines all hit doubles for the Pirates in the win. A.J. Hall added two singles. Fisher Schuman earned the win. He and Dewitt combined to give up 10 hits and one walk, while striking out five.

Northmor Golden Knights

Northmor couldn’t put runs across the plate at home against Centerburg on Friday, suffering a 4-0 KMAC loss to the Trojans.

The Golden Knights held a 5-4 advantage in hits, but were victimized by two errors in the contest. Billy Bowlin had a double and single for the team, while Grant Bentley finished with two singles. Travor Brubaker pitched a complete game. He struck out 11, walked four and gave up four hits.
