Mount Gilead boys open with win

The Mount Gilead boys’ basketball team opened its season with a 59-55 win over Loudonville.

In picking up the win, the Indians held a lead after each of the four quarters. The score was 11-7 after the opening period and 30-21 going into the half. MG held a 49-43 lead through three quarters before holding on for the victory.

Rowan Fitzpatrick hit three three-pointers on his way to an 18-point performance that led the team. Cameron Vickers finished with 11 points and Carson Trainer added 10.

Highland Scots

Highland was topped by visiting Worthington Christian in their basketball season opener on Friday by a 62-29 count.

The score was close after the first quarter, with the Worthington school holding a 19-13 lead. However, they would outscore the Scots 21-6 in the second quarter and 19-7 in the third as they pulled away for the win. Both team finished with three points in the fourth quarter.

Cooper Young led Highland with eight points.

Northmor Golden Knights

Colonel Crawford prevented Northmor from jumping out to a 2-0 start in boys’ basketball, outlasting the Golden Knights on Saturday by a 41-34 margin.

Both teams had seven points in the first quarter, but Colonel Crawford took a 19-16 lead into the half. They would be up 31-27 after three periods and were able to hold that lead to claim the win.

Trevor Brubaker finished with 12 points to lead the Golden Knights.
