Meeting on December 13 for the final time in 2021 the Cardington-Lincoln Board of Education approved a three-year contract for Superintendent Brian Petrie, effective Aug. 1, 2022 to July 31, 2025.
Petrie thanked the board. “This is my 12th year as superintendent and I’ve been with the district for 20 years.”
He added, “I am grateful for the people I work with. I can walk through the halls and feel the kindness from the students and teachers — hearing them say ‘hello’— it’s a great place to be.”
Petrie gave an update on the COVID virus situation noting that “ Since last October, when quarantines were adjusted we’ve seen a benefit. We’ve been able to keep the students here and there has not been any transmission. I think we are holding steady averaging five to seven cases a week and with the change in quarantines, we’ve seen fewer cases, five to seven cases a week.”
He complimented the staff and administration for their efforts.
In other matters:
• Petrie led a discussion on the updated school communication plan, which is being developed with the aid of Steve Fissell.
• Giving the district treasurer’s report was Jon Mason. Approval was given the Class of 2027 fund (7th grade). He said after consideration the district will go with Anthem Insurance.
• Approved the negotiated agreement between the Cardington Lincoln Board of Education and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees retroactive to July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023.
• Approved seeking bids on the high school/middle school restroom and the middle school vestibule restorations.
• The board approved Marsha Levering as a MTSS service tutor; accepted the resignation of Mark Delaney, MTSS coordinator and as varsity boys basketball coach.
• Donations approved included those from Columbia Gas of Ohio to the seventh grade of 80 Student Energy Kits with teacher materials valued at $965.80 donation of $250 from First United Methodist Church to pay off student lunch charges and a donation of $100 from an anonymous donor to the eighth grade to help pay for students to go on a field trip to the bowling alley.
Petrie said he helped choose two Hill Room beds with mattress, two overbed tables, One bed eye surgery stretchers; two monitors with stands, three IV poles and one data scope spectrum from Morrow County Hospital. These donated items will be used by the school in its nursing program.
• This was the last meeting for board member Matt Meyers who chose not to run for reelection. Meyers said although he wasn’t a graduate of this school, “It’s home to me. I appreciate all of the staff. It hasn’t always been easy. I wish the new person luck and remember we are the stewards of the voters.”
• Petrie praised Brent Herdman, lunch room supervisor, for his innovative upgrading of the lunch room to three lines.
• The board named Matt Clinger, president pro tem and Jon Mason, treasurer pro tem for the re organizational meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. in the high school library. A new board member will be named at that time.
• Board member Quinn Macyeko announced the naming of Evelyn Long, correspondent with the Morrow County Sentinel, to the OSBA Media Honor Roll Cardington-Lincoln Local for fair and balanced education reporting and exemplary service to the community.
