The Cardington softball team improved to 7-0, 4-0 in league play with three wins so far this week.

They traveled to Johnstown on Tuesday and won 3-1. Savannah Chalfant picked up the win, giving up one hit and one earned run, while striking out 11 in seven innings. The Pirates only managed six hits, with Samantha Brininger having two singles and scoring two runs. Dakota Crum had a single and run scored, while Alyson Adams, Brooklyn Whitt and Allie Moore all had one hit each.

On Wednesday, Cardington hosted Elgin and won 16-0 in a run-rule five-inning game. Makenna McClure got the win by striking out four and giving up three hits in a complete game. The offense was led by Adams, who had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Moore had two hits and scored three runs and McClure added a double. Also, Brininger, Dakota Crum, Whitt, Marissah Hall and Taylor Hubley also added hits.

The Pirates made a much-anticipated trip to DeSales on Thursday, winning 5-3 behind strong pitching, defense and a 14-hit onslaught. Chalfant went the distance on the mound, striking out 12, while giving up five hits and a pair of earned runs.

Whitt went 4-for-4 and had both a double and a RBI, while Brininger had two doubles and an RBI. Crum added two hits and two RBIs, while both Rylie Partlow and Raelynn Counts had two hits each with one of Counts’ being a double. Chalfant also cracked a double and McClure finished with one hit.

Highland Scots

Highland got back on the winning track at Centerburg’s expense on Thursday, taking a 13-3 decision. The Scots scored eight runs in the first inning and ever looked back in taking the five-inning win.

Lucy Smith picked up the win by pitching the first three innings, striking out five, walking one and only surrendering one hit. Abby O’Bryant finished the game.

Bridget Oder hit two doubles to pace Highland’s offense, while Kaitlyn Carney added a double. Overall, Highland tallied nine hits, but took advantage of a pair of walks and five Trojan errors.
