MORROW COUNTY- Just a few days after a fatal house fire occurred, another house fire took place in Harmony Township on Monday, February 27. The Big Walnut Joint Fire District released a statement about the incident via their Facebook page.

On Monday, February 27, at 2:55 p.m. the Morrow County 911 Center received a call for a house on fire on Township Road 187 in Harmony Township.

The statement by the BWJFD read the BWJFD firefighters were en route in under two minutes, and arrived on scene in under nine minutes. When the four member engine arrived on scene they found a well involved fire in the enclosed porch of an occupied house.

The statement by BWJFD continued and said Capt.Whitt had command and initiated an aggressive interior attack, quickly extinguishing the fire. They were joined eight minutes later by a Mount Gilead engine company who assisted with extinguishment. The fire had spread to the interior of the house over the kitchen area and was rapidly spreading on the outside, but due to BWJFD arriving quickly the fire was contained to the porch and kitchen ceiling.

“We want to thank Mount Gilead, Cardington, Porter Kingston, Morrow County EMS, Delaware County EMS and Morrow County 911 for their teamwork in preventing a tragedy. 5 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs were safely evacuated,” the statement by BWJFD reported. “We are incredibly proud of our local fire department and the challenges they have faced in the last week.”
