MOUNT GILEAD — There will be a Junior Fair this year after all.

This message was posted on Facebook Friday afternoon by the Morrow County Junior Fair:

“On June 25th, 2020, the Morrow County Sr. Fair Board voted to proceed in the planning of a 2020 Morrow County Junior Fair.

“Information will be posted as it becomes available. Stay tuned.”

The 170th edition of the Morrow County Fair was cancelled May 28 due to COVID-19 concerns.

Meeting last Thursday evening, members of the Morrow County Senior Fair Board voted 11-10 to rescind an earlier vote that canceled the fair scheduled to run Aug. 31-Sept. 7.

Senior Fair board president Anthony Shaffer said there was then an “overwhelming vote” with board members agreeing to allow the Junior Fair program to be conducted under the leadership of Shelby Perkins, junior fair coordinator, and Lisa Duckworth, assistant coordinator, along with Becky Barker and the Morrow County Extension Office.

Shaffer said application is being made to the Ohio Department of Agriculture to retrieve the original dates for the fair.

He added there will be no senior fair activities on the fairgrounds and no events taking place on the north side of the fairgrounds, such as tractor pulls, harness racing, amusement rides, etc.

Perkins and Duckworth said they were meeting with the junior fair board Monday evening, June 29, to develop plans, which at this time includes the annual Junior Fair Livestock sale planned for Labor Day.

Details will be announced in the days to come.

Perkins and Duckworth said, “We are moving forward in planning the junior fair while following COVID-19 guidelines.”
