In a battle of unbeaten KMAC football teams, Northmor was able to maintain their perfect record thanks to a come-from-behind 15-14 win on the road against East Knox.
The Knights got on the board in the first quarter on a 10-yard run by Conor Becker. The junior back followed that up with a two-point conversion to give Northmor an 8-0 lead. However, East Knox got within an 8-7 margin at the half and then scored on a fumble return in the fourth quarter to lead 14-8 with only five minutes remaining in regulation.
Northmor was able to manufacture a game-winning drive in the final minutes, though, as Becker crossed the goal line on a 20-yard run and Nate Ruhl added the extra point kick to put the Knights in front by one point — a margin they were able to maintain over the final 2:44 of action.
Hunter Mariotti completed 16-of-26 passes for 139 yards in the game with Cole Dille catching five balls for 45 yards. Both Blake Miller and Gavin Ramos had four receptions and Becker added three catches. Becker also ran for 87 yards and both Chris Bood and Logan Randolph tallied interceptions in the contest.
Highland Scots
Highland had a dominating first-half performance for the second straight week in taking a 44-7 win over Fredericktown at home Friday.
The Scots scored all of their points in the first half, leading 30-0 after 12 minutes of play and 44-0 at the intermission.
Brock Veley opened the game with a 91-yard kick return for points and Brody Matthews added a two-point conversion to make it 8-0. Tate Tobin added a two-yard run and a two-point conversion to double that lead and Matthews then added touchdown runs of 22 and 14 yards to boost the lead to a 30-point margin.
In the second quarter, Matthews scored on a five-yard run and Tobin added a 29-yard touchdown. Riley Kemmer was perfect on four extra-point tries, as well.
Matthews finished with 94 yards on the ground, while Weaver added 51 and Tobin tallied 46. Ian Taylor completed four passes for 65 yards with Veley tallying three receptions for 37 of that total.
Mount Gilead Indians
Mount Gilead battled back from a first-quarter deficit at home against Centerburg on Friday, but couldn’t quite get over the hump in a 26-18 loss.
The Trojans scored twice in the first quarter to lead 13-0. However, the Indians opened the second period with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Nate Rogers to Owen Blanton. Brady Mermann then scored on a two-yard run to bring the team within one point.
Centerburg scored shortly before the half to lead 20-12 at the intermission, but MG fought back in the third quarter with a 45-yard pass from Rogers to Mermann to trip their deficit to two points. Unfortunately for the Indians, they would not be able to score again and their opponents got an insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter to win by eight.
Rogers completed 13 passes for 152 yards with Mermann catching two passes for 55 yards. Brandon Strickland picked up 35 yards on the ground to be the team’s leading rusher. On defense, Lane Carpenter had 9.5 tackles and a fumble recovery, Tristan Seitz added six tackles and two sacks and Andy Williamson had 5.5 tackles. Also, both Strickland and Mason Mollohan also recorded sacks.
