Cardington finished their football season with a 7-3 record after topping Fredericktown 62-18 in a road contest Friday.

The Pirates jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. Christian Huffman ran for scores of three and 23 yards and Luke McCarrell also connected with Devin Pearl for a 47-yard score.

Pearl had a 78-yard kick return for points in the second quarter, but the Freddies closed within a 27-10 margin by the half. However, Cardington would score five straight touchdowns in the second half to pull away for an easy win.

McCarrell (14 yards), Scott Osborne (two) and Huffman (nine) all had rushing touchdowns in the third quarter. In the fourth, McCarrell hit Skyler Bowling for a two-yard score and Mason Goers added a 22-yard touchdown run to make the score 62-10. Fredericktown added a late touchdown, but the Pirates still cruised to the win.

Osborne ran for 115 yards, while Huffman added 75. McCarrell completed 10 passes for 147 yards, with Pearl tallying six catches for 111 of that total.

Northmor Knights

Northmor broke into the win column in their final football game of the season, jumping out to a fast start against host Elgin and taking a 52-24 win.

Jordan Wiseman connected with Nathan Hall for a 28-yard touchdown and Demetrius Johnson added a two-point run to give the team an early lead, which they increased when Johnson had a 10-yard touchdown run and Wiseman hit Conan Becker for a two-point pass.

Elgin would get a touchdown and two-point conversion to get within a 16-8 score, but the Knights finished the quarter with a 53-yard pass from Wiseman to Ryland Thomas, followed by a conversion pass from Wiseman to Becker to take a 16-point lead after 12 minutes.

Elgin got within a 24-16 margin, but a 62-yard scoring pass from Wiseman to Johnson gave the Knights a 30-16 halftime edge. In the third quarter, the Knight QB hit Hall for a 21-yard pass. Then, in the fourth, Becker had a four-yard touchdown run and Johnson added a 62-yard score. The team got two-point conversions on both touchdowns, as Wiseman hit Johnson on the first and ran it in himself on the second, to take a 52-16 lead before Elgin scored to finish the game.

Wiseman completed nine passes for 307 yards in the game, with both Kolton Smith and Hall having two receptions. Johnson added 99 yards on the ground.
