Mount Gilead Board of Education to vote on millage transfer

Residents of the Mount Gilead Exempted Village Schools can expect to see their property tax rate drop next year, after school officials presented the board of education with a tax levy change, as a result of reappraisal from the Morrow County Auditor’s Office.

The board will vote on a $2.2 mill inside fund transfer to its permanant improvement fund at its next meeting.

“This money cannot go to salaries,” Mount Gilead Superientendent Jeff Thompson said. “It has to go to permanant or capital improvements.”

According to Ohio Revised Code, are defined as, “any property, asset, or improvement with an estimated life or usefulness of five years or more, including land and interests therein, and reconstructions, enlargements, and extensions thereof having an estimated life or usefulness of five years or more.”

The district can use the funding for the, “acquisition, replacement, enhancement, maintenance or repair of permanent improvements as those terms are defined in this rule.”

The board will host a public hearing concerning the issue at the district office on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m.

Additionally, the board approved amendments and updates to the district’s bylaws and policies for the 2016-2017 school year.

The district’s policies can be accessed on its website under the policies tab. Thompson noted there was a substantial number of changes to the codified district policies.
