Mount Gilead swept both high school titles at Saturday’s Mike Armstrong Invitational at Cardington.

The girls’ squad scored 161, while second-place Cardington scored 101. Highland took third with 97. In the boys’ meet, MG had 179, which was 68 more points than second-place Lucas could muster. Highland was third with 100.5 and Cardington took fifth with 46.

In the girls’ meet, the Indians claimed wins in two relays. Christa Seckel, Corrin Watts, Savannah Randall and Olivia Brewer took first in the 800 relay in 1:59. The quartet of Hannah Bush, Darcy Picker, Hope Hack and Micah James won the 3200 relay in 11:21.

Jenna Shipman won three individual events, placing first in the 400 (1:04), 800 (2:35.72) and long jump (15’6”). Also, Micah James took first in the 1600 with a time of 5:58 and Skylar Edwards finished first in the shot put with a throw of 32’8.5”.

The Indians also claimed a number of second- and third-place finishers. Brewer took second in the 100, third in the 200 and ran with Kayla Barker, Corrin Watts and Claire Butcher on the third-place 400-meter relay. Randall claimed second for MG in the discus. Bush took third place in the 400, as did Jadyn Shipman in the 800 and Kelsey Snyder in the 3200.

Also finishing third were Christa Seckel in the 100 hurdles, Watts in the high jump and Morgan Brooke in the shot put.

For Cardington, Destiny Williamson, Abigail Lorimer and Lilly Grooms picked up wins. Williamson and Lorimer tied for first in the high jump, both clearing 4’4”; while Grooms got over 6’ to win the pole vault. Lorimer also was third in the 300 hurdles and teamed with Alicia McElwee, Sage Brannon and Williamson to take second in the 800-meter relay.

McElwee finished second in the long jump, while Brannon placed third. Also, Caitlyn Lee-Rosch was second in the pole vault, as was Eli Crum in the shot.

Highland had a number of competitors finish in second place, including the 400-meter relay team of Jenna Brown, Meg Mitchell, Erin Conner and Gracie Hinkle and the 3200 relay squad of Jena Buchholz, Taylor Belcher, Laura Spearman and Sophia Thompson.

Laura Spearman took second in the 800 and added a third-place finish in the 1600, while Sophia Thompson was second in the 3200. Belcher finished second in the 300 hurdles, while Lydia Morgan was third in the discus.

In the boys’ meet, the Indians added two more relay wins. Deondre Cook, Jonah Barnett, Dustin Fraizer and Sawyer Shipman claimed the 800-meter relay in 1:39 and Kyle Ciballi, Austin Hallabrin, Nicholas Weiss and Casey White won the 3200 relay in 8:59. Also, the 400-meter team of Cook, Brandon Stevens, Fraizer and Drake McCallen finished second.

Hallabrin added wins in the 800 (2:08.52) and 1600 (4:50) and Shipman added wins in both hurdle races, taking the 110s in 17.36 and the 300s in 46.11. White claimed first in the 3200 in 10:58.

Fraizer ran second in the 100, while Barnett took second in the 200. Nicholas Weiss ran second in the 800, while Jason Robinson was runner-up in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. Kyle Ciballi tied for second in the pole vault and was third in the 1600, and Cook added a second-place finish in the long jump.

Stevens finished third in the 400 and long jump. Also taking third was Kyle Blanton in the high jump.

Highland’s Austyn Albanese took the 400 with a time of 54.12. He also was third in both the 100 and 200. The quartet of Nathan Bentley, Brandon Dionne, Dylan Kessler and William Parsley was second in the 800-meter relay, while Christian Buchholz, Caleb Matos, Dalton Lee and Travis Mentzer ran second in the 3200 relay.

Garrett Mentzer was second in the 400, while Gavin Kafka was second in the high jump and third in the 300 hurdles. Travis Mentzer took third in the 800.

For Cardington, Quinn Maceyko finished second in the 3200. Also, Jarrod Fair was second in the shot put.

Northmor girls

The Northmor girls claimed the win at the Ridgedale Invitational Saturday, finishing with 132.5 points, 7.5 better than second-place Fairbanks.

Hope Miracle won the long jump with an effort of 14’1.5”, while Marie Lee took the 3200 in 12:45.3 and Brooke Bennett won the 400 in 1:05. Bennett also was second in the 100, while Miracle took third in the 400.

Cristianna Boggs finished second in the long jump for the Knights, as did the team’s 3200-meter and 400-meter relays. Also, Selena Cortez was third in the shot put, Kristen Duryea took third in the 1600, Rachel Morrison was third in the 800 and Vivienne Cutrupi in the 200.
