The Cardington eighth grade girls’ basketball team continued its strong play with three more wins.

On Saturday, Dec. 12, they topped Highland 47-29. Casey Bertke led Cardington with 28 points, while Hannah Wickline had eight and Baylee Adams had six.

Monday, Dec. 14 saw the Pirates top Galion 62-9 behind Bertke’s 34-point performance. Everyone on the Cardington roster scored with Wickline scoring nine and Adams, Emily Pearl and Anna Lorimer all tallied four.

Cardington then beat Centerburg 57-6 on Dec. 16. Bertke finished with 31, while Wickline and Taylor Linkous both had six and both Bailey Moodispaugh and Adams had four each.

Cardington finishes the first round of COAL play with a 7-0 record.

Highland Middle School girls’ basketball

The Highland seventh grade girls’ basketball team picked up two more wins recently.

On Wednesday, Dec. 16, they took a 32-10 win over East Knox. They followed that up with a 34-6 win over Danville on Saturday. In that contest, they outscored their opponents 19-0 in the first half.

Also picking up a win last week was the eighth grade team, also against Danville on Saturday. The score was 46-44 in overtime. The Scots trailed 35-27 entering the fourth quarter, but rallied to send things to an extra period, which they took by a 7-5 margin to earn the win.

Madison Cecil scored 17 to lead Highland, while Brooklyn Baird added 16 and Taylor Edwards finished with six.
