Cardington got their girls’ basketball season off to a good start with a 61-48 win at home against Danville on Saturday.

The Pirates only led 13-12 after the first quarter, but outscored their opponents 19-7 in the second period to take a commanding 13-point lead into the half. Both teams then scored 29 points over the final two periods to send Cardington to victory.

Highland Scots

The Highland girls opened their season Saturday by dropping a 37-29 decision against Utica.

A poor second quarter proved to be the culprit for the Scots. After finishing the first quarter only behind 6-4, they were outscored 15-6 in the second.

They would take the third 11-3, but still trailed 24-21. Utica would then take a 13-8 advantage in the fourth quarter to finish on top in the contest.

Northmor Knights

The Northmor Lady Knights’ basketball season opened with a 59-41 loss at Colonel Crawford. No further information was available by deadline.
