* On Wednesday, City Barbeque proudly fed over 6,600 of our U.S. Veterans for Veterans Day—valuing over $66,800. Its most successful Veterans Day to date, the company was able to serve almost 17 percent more free meals to veterans than in 2014. The Columbus-based BBQ restaurant, now 25 stores strong nationally, has served up free meals from its locations to U.S. Vets for three years now.
* Heidelberg University has received a $500,000 grant from the National Machinery Foundation to support a new co-curricular program that will help students develop the soft skills of communication, collaboration and conflict management that employers are seeking. The grant is the largest foundation award ever received for a program by Heidelberg, and administrators at the university as well as the National Machinery Foundation are excited about its potential.
* The Lighthouse Shelter in Lancaster has been helping victims of domestic violence in this area for more than thirty years. This year, staff and board members with community volunteers have combined efforts this year to offer a special fundraiser, Breakfast with Santa: A Season of Giving, a fundraiser to provide toys and needs for families who have been in crisis over the last year as a result of domestic violence. Tickets are now available. Breakfast with Santa will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec, 5 at Saint Peter’s Church, 105 E Mulberry Street near the downtown area in Lancaster.
