MOUNT VERNON — A Marengo man was killed and a Mount Vernon teenager injured following a one-vehicle crash shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 in Morris Township.

The Mount Gilead State Highway Patrol said Scott Curnutte, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, Alexa Doup, 19, of Mount Vernon, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

The patrol says Curnutte was driving his car eastbound on Township Road 389 when he lost control on the wet road with the car traveling off the left side of the road and striking a tree.

Curnutte was not wearing a safety belt, but Doup was. Assisting the patrol at the scene were the Mount Vernon Police Department, Mount Vernon Fire Department, Mount Vernon EMS and Fredericktown EMS.
