The sound of applause and cheers from family and friends met the announcement of the 2016 Morrow County Junior Fair King and Queen named Tuesday evening, August 30, in the youth building on the fairgrounds.
The queen’s tiara was placed on the head of Miranda Harvey by the 2015 queen Lauren Hall and the king’s Medallion was given to Adam Barrett by retiring king Collin Berg. The king and queen were each presented a trophy.
The new queen, attired in a floor length orange colored silk gown with a sweetheart neckline, said that although she knew she had support she was thrilled when her name was announced as the winner. A senior at Northmor High School Harvey said the plans to attend The Ohio State University to study education and occupational therapy.
She is the daughter of Scott and Kim Harvey and belongs to the Farmers and Charmers 4-H Club and the Northmor FFA.
Barrett, who was a king candidate last year, was pleased to come away the winner this year. A 2016 Northmor High School graduate, Barrett plans to attend the University of Northwestern Ohio and study diesel mechanics.
He is the son of Daniel and Jaime Zeger and belongs to the Friendly Farmers 4-H Club and the Northmor FFA.
The duo will visit junior fair events through the fair’s run and plan to attend Ohio fairs during the next year.
Emceeing the program were Berg and Hall who thanked their parents, Junior Fair Board leaders and others for supporting them the past year.
Hall said she had visited 26 fairs the past year and Berg had visited four.
Junior Fair coordinator, Julie Logan, announced the following donors to the royalty program: Keith’s Flower Shop, Mary K’s Flowers, Brad and Kim Hessey family, Rob and Julie Logan family; Jerry and Maryjo Sellars, Sara Jo, Justin, Kentlee and Jordan Hershberger; Mount Gilead FFA Alumni, Boondocks Restaurant, Richard and Carolyn Sears family, Chesterville Masons, Heacock Farms, Olen and Ruby Jackson, Russ Mayer, Cardington Yutaka Technologies, Inc and Evelyn Long.
Prior to the royalty program, a dinner was served to 50 people. It was sponsored and hosted by the Morrow County Cattlemen’s Assoc., Morrow County Pork Producers, Morrow County Dairy Producers, the junior fair board, the senior fair board and parents of Berg and Hall.
