MOUNT GILEAD – Have a small space, but want to grow food for your family? Love flowers, but don’t have room or time for a big garden? Join Carri Jagger, OSU Extension Agent, on Wednesday, April 26, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Perry Cook Memorial Public Library, 7406 Co. Rd. 242, Shauck, for “Container Gardening: Principles and Design.” No registration is necessary – just stop in and join us! If you have a container you would like to use for plants, bring it along for advice on how best to utilize the space. Be creative! Almost anything can become a fun, yet functional, container garden.

While you are here, check out some poetry books – April is National Poetry Month and we have a variety of juvenile and adult poetry selections. Celebrate “Poem in Your Pocket” day, April 27 – pick up one of our pocket poems at the front desk when you visit.

We’re celebrating Earth Day (April 22) all month long – be sure to check out the display where our early literacy program participants have shared ways to make a difference in their own homes and community!

Our regular Saturday morning programming continues from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. each week with Lego Day “Secret Zoo” on April 15, Make It and Take It “Fanciful Spring Birds” on April 22, and Superhero Day on Saturday, April 29, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dress up as your favorite superhero and enjoy some Super Snacks!

Sewing with Kyle will be offered from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on April 20th and 27th. Please call the library to register for the sewing programs, 419-362-7181.

The Fall 2023 Early Youth Literacy program registration has begun – please stop by the library to complete your registration form and secure your spot in the Tinker Tots, Little Learners, or A2Z program.

National Library Week is celebrated April 23rd to April 29th this year. Statistics show that Perry Cook Library patrons saved over $350,000 in 2022 (source: “What’s Your Library Worth?”) by checking out books, magazines, DVDs, and audiobooks from our library. Those of who you prefer e-books and audiobooks checked out 3,550 digital items from Perry Cook Library in 2022, a value of over $53,000. In addition, visitors logged more than 6,991 wireless sessions (inside AND outside the library walls). We offer authoritative online research databases from our website and a great selection of online books for our patrons, but we love to see you in person, too. National Library Week is a great time to come back if you’ve been away – stop in and see what the library and its resources can do for you!
