Sandusky County – The Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US 20 near Milepost 24 in Green Creek Township. The crash occurred, March 17, 2023 at approximately 6:41 a.m.

A blue 2012 Kenworth T6 Series semi-truck, driven by John G. Ketteman Jr, age 56, of Britton Michigan, was stopped northbound in a gas station parking and was attempting to make a left turn onto US 20. A 2011 dark green Toyota Camry, driven by Donald M. Eckel, age 74, of Pemberville Ohio, was eastbound in the right lane of US 20. Mr. Ketteman Jr. pulled into the path of Mr. Eckel when the crash occurred.

Mr. Eckel sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Mr. Ketteman Jr. was not injured in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Clyde Fire Department, Sandusky County Life Squads 15 and 18, Sandusky County Coroner’s Office, Triple J’s Towing, and Interstate Towing.

Alcohol and drug impairment do not appear to be factors. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
