MORROW COUNTY — Ohio residents generate 7.11 pounds of trash each day. When you purchase an item or even dispose of an item, that product contains natural resources. Recently, youth of Morrow County had an opportunity to learn more about the connection between natural resources, goods and recycling.
Four classrooms from four different schools (Cardington-Lincoln Middle School, Gilead Christian High School, Mount Gilead High School and Tomorrow Center) participated in the first Morrow County Recycle Right Classroom Challenge.
Students learned what recyclables are accepted; the importance of recycling right, and the value added recycling has on a community. They established a strong connection that materials and goods are made from natural resources and when we dispose of an item vs. recycling it we are ultimately wasting resources.
Common natural resources needed to make goods include: Trees (cardboard, pasteboard, paper, and cartons), oil/petroleum (plastic), iron ore (steel products), bauxite ore (aluminum products), and sand/limestone (glass).
Recycling is an important factor in conserving our natural resources and greatly contributes to improving the environment. It’s time for everyone to be a part of the solution. Please remember to recycle. Congratulations to Mount Gilead High School JOG class for being the Top Classroom Recycler!
