FRIDAY 9/11 – Mt. Gilead – The Ohio State Highway Patrol in conjunction with the Mt. Vernon Police Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Office announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 8:00 p.m. tonight to 11:00 p.m. on US 36, Cochocton Avenue in the City of Mt. Vernon in Knox County.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grants funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes. Last year in Knox County, there was (1) OVI related fatal crash, resulting in (1) life lost and (24) OVI related injury crashes. This area was identified after reviewing OVI related crash statistics from the past two years and through the first half of this year, along with locations of OVI arrests made, indicating the need to make a concentrated effort in this area.

If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.
