Motorcycle crash claims Caledonia man

Staff report

A Marion County man died in a motorcycle crash early Sunday in Morrow County.

Aaron Howlett, 34, was driving a 2006 Harley Davidson Sportster northbound when he veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a mailbox and a traffic sign, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Mount Gilead Post. The crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on State Route 746 in Westfield Township.

The motorcycle overturned and Howlett and his passenger, Tara Carney, 33, were ejected from it.

Howlett was pronounced dead at the scene. Carney was transported by medical helicopter to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither rider was wearing a helmet, troopers said.

Both are from Caledonia. The crash remains under investigation and alcohol and drugs are suspected factors, troopers said.

Westfield Township Fire, Delaware County EMS, Morrow County EMS and the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
