Appreciating Memorial Day at Chesterville

Dear Editor,

I attended the Chesterville Community Memorial Day Ceremony with my husband and three children. This was our first time attending the parade and ceremony.

I am hoping that this will be an annual family tradition. I was blessed by the honor and respect that was given to the service men and women who gave their lives for the freedom we have today in America. I was blown away by the simple yet powerful ceremony and all of the time in detail that was taken to make the service a success.

The Highland Band, Highland JROTC, BWJFD Firefighters, Honor/Color Guard, MC Sheriff’s office, cemetery crew and all of the parade and ceremony participants are to be commended for a job well done. Ceremony bulletins were handed out at the beginning of service; an important detail to commemorate the morning and note all of the people who participated.

A beautiful breeze accompanied the speech of Robert Heindel CW4 with the Ohio National Guard. His speech was memorable as he reflected on the positives of his time in Iraq. The Master of Ceremony was Lynn Shinabery and he did a nice job keeping the service running smooth.

There was a time for each veteran to be recognized for their service. John Yust shared the closing remarks and prayer over the service. Each year a public meeting is held following the ceremony to address what went well and what could be added or changed for the next year.

A standing ovation is in order to the Memorial Day committee for their efforts in putting a parade and service together for our small community in Morrow County. May God continue to bless the USA!
