After the first day of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference track meet on Tuesday, the Blue Division leaders were Mount Gilead for the girls and Northmor for the boys.

With six events having been scored, Mount Gilead’s girls had 56.5 points, while second-place Cardington had 50.5. Northmor was in third with 41, while Highland was sixth with 17.

The Lady Indians won the only running event contested on the day, as the quartet of Micah James, Hannah Bush, Jenna Shipman and Darcy Picker claimed the 3200-meter relay in 9:55.13.

Jenna Shipman added a win in the long jump with a top effort of 16’, while Savannah Randall tossed the discus 112’11” to win that event. Randall also was second in the high jump and third in the shot put for MG.

Cardington’s Nadia Kerman won the shot put with a throw of 32’5.75”. She also was third in the discus. In the long jump, Alicia McElwee finished second, while Sage Brannon took third. Also, Lilly Grooms was third in the pole vault.

Karalee Patterson won the pole vault for Northmor by clearing 8’, while Hope Miracle was second in the same event. Northmor also took second in the 3200 relay, with Maria Lee, Reanne McDonald, Samantha Peters and Rachel Morrison running in the race.

For the Highland girls, Lydia Morgan placed second in the discus to lead them in Tuesday’s action.

In the boys’ meet, Northmor scored 68 points to take the early lead. Mount Gilead was second with 34.5, while Highland was fifth (26) and Cardington eighth (6) after Tuesday.

The Knights claimed three wins in field events. James Walker won the high jump by clearing 5’10”, while Demetrius Johnson took the long jump with an effort of 21’5” and Josh Caudill claimed the shot put with a heave of 45’4.5”.

Also, the 3200-meter relay team of Spencer Adams, Walker, Kaleb Hart and Alec Moore placed second, as did Kolton Smith in the high jump. Nathan Bird was third in the discus and Aaron Vitte took third in the pole vault.

Mount Gilead claimed 10 points in the 3200-meter relay, as Kyle Ciballi, Austin Hallabrin, Nicholas Weiss and Casey White took first place in 8:18.93. Ciballi added a second-place finish in the pole vault.

Highland’s William Parsley finished third in the long jump, while teammate Gavin Kafka tied for third in the high jump.

Cardington’s points on Tuesday came from Jarrod Fair, who took third place in the shot put.
