The Mount Gilead track teams made a clean sweep of the team titles at their own invitational, held Saturday.
At the Mount Gilead Invitational, the girls scored 151.5 to nearly tally double the total of second-place Northmor, who scored 79. The boys’ team finished with 156 points, while Teays Valley placed second with 107 points.
In the girls’ meet, MG won 11 events, including four of the five relays. The 400-meter relay team of Makaylee Elkin, Addison Chapman, Corrin Watts and Olivia Brewer took first in 53.3; while the 800-meter team of Elkin, Chapman, Savannah Randall and Brewer won in 1:55.
Micah James, Hannah Bush, Erin Zmuda and Darcy Picker took the 1600-meter relay in 4:26.6 and James, Bush, Jenna Shipman and Picker won the 3200-meter relay in a meet record time of 10:04.9.
Shipman added three wins in individual events. She took the 400 in 59.3, the 800 in 2:26.7 and the long jump with an effort of 16’10”. Brewer won the 100 in 12.6, while Randall took the discus with a throw of 111’.
The shuttle hurdles relay team of Hope Hack, Kelsey Snyder, Skylar Edwards and Samantha Sullivan was second, while Jadyn Shipman placed second in the pole vault, as did Picker in the 800. Also, James was third in the 1600 and Elkin took third in the 200.
The boys’ team also claimed wins in plenty of events. Deondre Cook, Jonah Barnett, Dustin Fraizer and Sawyer Shipman won the 800-meter relay in 1:33.9. Nicholas Weiss, Cook, Kyle Ciballi and Austin Hallabrin took the 1600-meter relay in 3:35.6, while Ciballi, Hallabrin, Weiss and Casey White placed first in the 3200-meter relay in 8:16.6.
Shipman added wins in both the 110 hurdles (15.6) and 300 hurdles (41.4), while Hallabrin took the 800 in 1:58.8 and the 1600 in 4:33. White also won an individual event, placing first in the 3200 with a time of 10:17.4.
The 400-meter relay of Brandon Stevens, Barnett, Fraizer and Drake McCallen finished second, as did the shuttle hurdles team of Shipman, Bobby Starlin, Connor Page and Jason Robinson. Barnett was second in the 200, while Ciballi took second in the 1600 and third in the pole vault. Also, Stevens was third in the 400.
In finishing second in the girls’ meet, Northmor got a win from Brooke Bennett in the 200 in 27.8. She also was second in the 100 and third in the 400.
The 3200-meter relay team of Reanne McDonald, Isabelle Ditullio, Samantha Peters and Rachel Morrison was second; while the 1600-meter team of Vivenne Cutrupi, Rachel Morrison, Bennett and Kristen Duryea finished third.
Also placing third was the shuttle hurdles team of Selena Cortez, Jessica Cline, Monique Metzger and Peters. Maria Lee added a third-place finish in the 3200.
The Knight boys took third place overall, setting a record in the process, as Demetrius Johnson set a new mark in winning the long jump with an effort of 21’11”. Also winning was the shuttle hurdles team of Collin Berg, James Walker, Anthony Petulla and Kolton Smith. Their time was 1:04.5.
Johnson also finished second in the 100 and third in the 200, while Collin Berg was second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110s. Kolton Smith placed second in the 110 hurdles and third in the high jump. James Walker finished second in the high jump, while the 1600-meter relay of Drew Zoll, Berg, Walker and Johnson ran second.
Cardington’s girls finished sixth overall. Abigail Lorimer took first place in the 300 hurdles in 52.2. Also, Nadia Kerman was second in the discus and Lilly Grooms finished third in the pole vault. For the boys’ team, which finished sixth, Josh Queener had the highest place, taking sixth in the 1600.
The Highland boys finished eighth in the meet, with Austyn Albanese running second in the 400. The Scot girls, who placed ninth, got a first-place finish from Taylor Belcher in the high jump after she cleared 5’. Gilead Christian’s teams also competed in the meet, but didn’t score any points.
