The Northmor girls overcame a fast start by Highland to claim a 7-5 win on Monday. The Scots scored four runs in the top of the first, but the Knights tallied one in the bottom of the inning, one in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth to jump in front 7-4. Highland tallied one in the seventh, but couldn’t catch up to their hosts.
Shelbey Lilly picked up the win for the Knights. She struck out two and walked one, while giving up 12 hits. Cristiana Boggs tallied three hits, including a triple; while Karlee Carroll had a double and single and both Aly Blunk and Lily Tate picked up a pair of hits.
For the Scots, Lucy Smith and Abby O’Bryant pitched, with Smith taking the loss. They combined to strike out two and walk four, while giving up 11 hits. O’Bryant hit a home run, while Katie Coffee had a double and single. Parker Steck, Harlee Steck and Smith all added two singles each.
Cardington Pirates
Cardington improved to 13-0, 8-0 in league play, with a 5-1 home win against Fredericktown, who lost their first Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference contest to fall to 12-3, 8-1. The Pirates, who are currently ranked third in the state in Division III, got a one-hitter from Savannah Chalfant.
After a scoreless inning and a half, Cardington took a one-run lead in the second on a Brooklyn Whitt triple and a Chalfant sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the third, Makenna McClure walked and after an out, Samantha Brininger hit a bomb to left field for a two-run homer to put the Pirates up 3-0.
Dakota Crum followed with a single and after being moved to third by Alyson Adams, she was brought home by a Whitt double. After Rylie Partlow was hit by a pitch, Chalfant drove in Whitt with a single to give Cardington a 5-0 lead after three.
