Northmor took control early and played its entire bench, on their way to a 65-28 win over the East Knox Lady Bulldogs. Karalee Patterson scored nine of her game high 21 points in the first quarter as the Lady Knights charged out to an 18-7 lead and added on in each of the remaining periods.

Northmor’s transition offense was outstanding throughout the game. “That’s what we told them at the beginning of the game,” said Northmor head coach Daryl Uhde, “our transition offense is our offense. If we have to set up, we roll, but I didn’t want to,” added Uhde.

In the second quarter Northmor intensified their pressure and outscored east Knox 16-9. The Lady Bulldogs put up their first points of the period at the 3:00 mark.

Maddie Swihart canned a pair of 3-point baskets for Northmor as five player entered the scoring column for the Lady Knights in the second quarter.

“Start strong and play fast” was the coaching advice from the bench as the Lady Knights hit the floor for the second half.

The girls took notice. Patterson scored eight points on two 3’s and a layup as the Lady Knights ran the floor and moved the ball on offense, going up 49-23 at the end of the third quarter.

“We had our best passing game of the season,” said Uhde, “we swung the ball and didn’t dribble.”

With a big lead Northmor emptied its bench in the second half. “We told them at the half that we were going to mix the (rotations) up in the second half, said Uhde. “We paired starters up with (girls off the bench) and stressed “not to let down and play hard.”

East Knox stepped up its defensive pressure in the fourth quarter against the inexperienced Northmor players, to no avail, the lady Knights still outscored the undermanned Lady Bulldogs 16-5 in the period.

“We played everybody,” Uhde said. “Get the lead up, don’t press, get the running game going and run some plays too,” added Uhde.

Northmor had 10 of 12 players score. In addition to Patterson’s 21 points, Maddie Swihart added 16 and Brooke Bennett dropped in eight.

The Lady Knights hauled down 35 rebounds and had 16 assists. Karalea Carroll lead the team with eight rebounds, three offensive and five defensive boards.

Mattea Forshey led East Knox with 12 points.

Uhde was asked how he feels about his team at this point in “We’re small and struggle with teams that are bigger and stronger.” He added, “we’re smaller and we can run, if we score off transition we’re a much better team.”

The Lady Knights need to play to their strength as the season winds to a close.

Northmor has a tough week with games against Buckeye Central, Pleasant and Highland all upcoming in a five-day span. “Our next two games against Buckeye Central and Pleasant are tough. I know they’re both good, I’ve seen Buckeye play and watched tape on Pleasant,” said Uhde.

Northmor is 7-5 in the Blue Division of Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference and 10-8 overall.

Northmor travels to Buckeye Central on Feb 2.
