Cardington’s eighth grade girls’ basketball team took a 40-39 win over Pleasant in a hard-fought game Monday.

In a thrilling finish, Cardington, trailing by one point, stole the Pleasant inbounds pass and Baylee Adams hit a floater in the lane with just over two seconds to go as the Pirates defeated Pleasant 40-39 in a non-league game.

This one was an exciting contest for players and fans alike that featured multiple lead changes down the stretch. Pleasant opened the game with an early 6-0 run, but the Cardington team found its groove with strong post play by Casey Bertke and Hannah Wickline and the Pirates took a 22-14 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Spartans kept the game close by hitting some key jump shots and shooting 8-of-11 at the free throw line. However, Cardington was able to answer with guards Taylor Linkous and Adams both making crucial shots down the stretch.

Bertke led Cardington with 15 points, Wickline put up 12, while Adams scored seven and Linkous added six.
