The Highland Middle School girls’ basketball teams split their games with Elgin on Monday.
The seventh grade girls claimed a 33-18 victory. They jumped out to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter and never trailed after that, outscoring Elgin in the second and third quarters to build a commanding lead.
In the eighth grade game, Highland fell 42-34. The Scots only trailed by one point at the half, but were outscored 12-2 in the third quarter as Elgin was able to pull away for the win. Madison Cecil led Highland with 13 points, while Brooklyn Baird added 10.
