The Mount Gilead boys improved to 2-0 with a 70-67 win over visiting Highland on Saturday.

The Indians rode a strong defensive performance in the third quarter to the win. The score was tied at 14 after eight minutes of play and MG trailed 36-34 at the half, but they were able to outscore Highland 12-6 in the third to take a four-point lead. Highland took the final period 25-24, but Mount Gilead was able to hold on for the win.

Deondre Cook scored 24 points, hitting three three-pointers in the process. Zack Hosack tallied 15, Tyler Bland scored 11 and Alijah Keen finished with eight. For Highland, Trent Mason led the way with 18 points, Alex Mason hit five long-range shots on his way to 17 and Shane Carney tallied 15.

Cardington Pirates

Cardington would win their second straight game in a back-and-forth affair against East Knox on Saturday.

In their 54-51 win, the Pirates led 19-8 after the opening period, but watched the Bulldogs battle back to take a 28-24 lead into the intermission. The Pirates would outscore their opponents 15-8 in the third to take a three-point lead into the fourth and then held on for the decision.

Devin Pearl hit four threes on his way to scoring 16 points. Trey Williams tallied 13 and both Garrett Wagner and Luke McCarrell added eight.
