Northmor was able to open their basketball season with a win, toppling Bucyrus by a 58-37 margin after overcoming a slow start on Saturday.

The Redmen led 10-8 after the first quarter, but Northmor exploded offensively in the second period to take a 35-24 lead into the half. The Knights then took the third period 8-2 and the fourth 15-11 to add to their margin of victory.

Northmor was able to boast four players in double figures. Tyler Kegley led the way with 13 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots. Gunnar Lilly added 13, while both Demetrius Johnson and Brock Pletcher added 10 each. Lilly and Johnson both had four steals.

Highland Scots

River Valley rallied in the second half to spoil Highland’s boys’ basketball opener Saturday by a 72-61 margin.

The Scots led 17-13 after eight minutes of play and 35-31 at the half. However, the Vikings took the third 19-12 to hold a three-point lead entering the final quarter. They would outscore Highland 22-14 down the stretch to finish the game on top.

Alex Mason hit three three-pointers on his way to a 25-point night for the Scots. Shane Carney added 15.

Cardington Pirates

Northridge pulled away down the stretch to top Cardington 56-47 on Friday in their season-opening game.

The score was tied at nine after the opening quarter and closely-contested for the next two periods with the Vikings leading 22-21 at the half and 39-37 after three. However, over the final eight minutes, the Pirates were outscored 17-10, allowing Northridge to finish on top in the game.

Both Derek Goodman and Luke McCarrell finished with 13 points for the Pirates, Garrett Wagner added 10.
