The Highland boys’ basketball team rode a fast start to a 46-37 win at Danville on Tuesday night.

The Scots jumped in front by a 14-2 margin after the first quarter and increased their lead to a 30-9 score at the half. After both teams scored 12 in the third quarter and Danville took a 16-4 advantage in the fourth, but Highland’s lead was too large for the Blue Devils to overcome.

Jordan Bellamy finished with 13 to lead the team, while Rider Minnick finished with 10.

Cardington Pirates

Cardington earned a hard-fought 40-39 win over visiting Elgin in Tuesday night boys’ basketball, moving to 9-3 in the process.

The Pirates got off to a good start, taking a 12-7 lead after the first quarter. The Comets battled back to tie the score at 20 going into the half, but Cardington took an 11-7 advantage in the third to go in front 31-27 and they would still be in front at the final buzzer.

Trey Brininger led the team with 12 points. Both Zach Lester and Mason White tallied nine.
