On Saturday, Cardington took second place in the eight-team Cardington Invitational.
The Pirates opened with a 2-1 win over Hayes High School by scores of 28-26, 23-25, 25-15. Samantha Brininger tallied nine kills and 11 digs, while Gracie Rees had seven kills and Jordan Deskins finished with 10 assists and three aces.
Cardington then topped Buckeye Valley 26-24, 25-20. Brininger had another good game with seven kills, 13 digs and three aces. MaKenna McClure finished with eight kills and Rylie Partlow added 10 digs.
In the final match, the Pirates fell to New Albany 12-25, 16-25. Rees had four kills and Partlow finished with five digs.
