The Mount Gilead boys’ cross country team claimed a regional championship on Saturday, winning their Division III meet with 44 points, while second-place Fredericktown tallied 68.
In the 16-team race that kicked off the day’s action at Pickerington North High School, MG was paced by Casey White, who took ninth place in 16:52.8. Liam Dennis ran 12th in 16:55.1 and Ethan Supplee claimed 14th in 16:56.1, while Kyle White placed 15th in 16:59.4. Brett Shipman was 27th with a time of 17:27.3, Michael Snopik ran 36th in 17:41.7 and Trevor Ball finished 66th in 18:39.6 to round out the team.
A couple hours later, the MG girls joined the boys as a state-qualifying team. While Centerburg won the 17-team race with 57 points, the Lady Indians claimed the top two individual placers to finish second with 80 points.
Allison Johnson was the meet champion, finishing in a time of 18:38.4, while Baylee Hack was second overall in 18:41.9. Olivia Millisor took 17th in 20:27.3 and Emily Hanft claimed 40th in 21:39. Finishing 57th was Selia Shipman in 21:59.8, while Madison Fitzpatrick placed 65th in 22:18.2 and Jadyn Shipman took 120th in 25:20.5.
In the same race, the Northmor girls also advanced to the state meet by virtue of finishing fourth overall with 162 points.
Kristie Wright claimed 28th place in 21:19.7, while Julianna Ditullio took 44th in 21:46.8 and Sabrina Kelley placed 47th in 21:48.9. Julia Kanagy ran 50th in 21:51.3 and Olivia Goodson claimed 68th in 22:25.4. Also, Carolyn McGaulley took 101st in 23:53.2 and Bailey Snyder finished 121st in 25:33.4.
Also making it to the state meet was Cardington’s Mason Young. In the Division III boys’ meet, he took 13th place in 16:55.5.
Competing in the same race was the Northmor boys’ team, who finished seventh. Gavvin Keen finished 28th in 17:29.3 and Ryan Bentley was 39th in 17:44.4 to lead the squad. Mostyn Evans claimed 64th in 18:34.3, while Amil Upchurch took 71st in 18:42.6 and Kooper Keen placed 74th in 18:46. Also, Chase Hoover ran 75th in 18:47.9 and Austin Amens claimed 90th in 19:16.3.
In the Division II races, three Highland athletes competed in the regional meet. For the girls, Camberly Schade finished 41st with a time of 20:55.5. In the boys’ race, Dalton Lee was 89th in 18:09.2 and Collin Kipp took 90th in 18:09.3.
