Northmor’s football team set a new school record in defeating host Centerburg 34-0 on Friday.

The win pushed the Knights to 9-0 on the year, which is a new record for most wins in a season. That goal was essentially accomplished in the early going, as the team tallied 28 points in the first quarter and never looked back.

Hunter Mariotti got the scoring started by hitting Blake Miller for a 49-yard scoring pass early in the opening period. Conor Becker then scored on runs of one and 71 yards and Tony Martinez added a three-yard score, while Nate Ruhl was successful on all four of his extra point kicks.

Leading 28-0 going into the second period, the Knights tallied another touchdown on a one-yard run by Becker to take a 34-point lead, which is how it remained the rest of the way.

Northmor out-gained their opponents 339-70 in the game, with Becker rushing for 188 of that amount. Mariotti completed seven passes for 101 yards, with both Cole Dille and Gavin Ramos snaring a pair of receptions.

Cardington Pirates

Cardington was able to tally their first win of the football season Friday night when they traveled to Fredericktown and left with a 28-6 win.

Mason Goers scored four touchdowns to lead the Pirate offense, while Brandon Steckel was perfect on his four extra point attempts. He opened the scoring with a nine-yard run in the first quarter. After the Freddies closed within 7-6 immediately, Cardington got a seven-yard scoring run from Goers to give his team a 14-6 lead after 12 minutes.

Goers would add a two-yard touchdown in the second quarter and a five-yard scoring run in the fourth, as Cardington pulled away from their hosts to get into the win column. Goers finished with 199 yards on the ground in the contest, while quarterback Nate Hickman added 51 rushing yards.
