In his second year of coaching the Highland boys’ basketball team, Chris Powell is out to improve on last year’s 13-10 record.

While he has five returning lettermen, he’ll have to replace graduates Quin Winkelfoos, Max Schreiber, Dylan Tuggle, Alex Mason and Colton Liszkai, who all had important roles on last year’s squad.

However, the team brings back Mack Anglin, who was a first-team MOAC pick last year, as well as a first-team District 11 selection. Kaleb Phillips also returns after finishing as a second-team District 11 pick last year. Also back are Chris Branham, Andy Wheeler and Chase Carpenter.

To join that group, Powell is looking for contributions from Cody Holtrey, Joel Butterman, Clay Schnidley, Branton Howard and Drew Santo.

“We want to win the KMAC,” said Powell of his goals for his team’s first year in the new conference. “We want to host a tournament game and win a district championship.”

To finish on top of the league, the coach feels his team really needs to watch out for Northmor, who returns the majority of their team, and Mount Gilead, who brings back three key guys.
