Cardington cruised past Colonel Crawford in their season-opening girls’ basketball game, winning by an 87-18 margin at home.

The Pirates led 24-2 after the opening period of play and boosted their advantage to a whopping 50-4 margin at the half. They would then outscore their opponents 13-4 in the third quarter and 24-8 in the fourth to put the finishing touches on their win.

Sage Brannon scored 24 points and added seven steals, while Kynlee Edwards added 20 points and six steals. Casey Bertke picked up 15 points and swatted six blocks in the game and Taylor Reppart finished with eight points.

Northmor Lady Knights

Northmor split a pair of girls’ basketball games over the weekend.

On Friday, they topped Colonel Crawford by a 41-32 margin. In the contest, Addie Farley tallied 15 points for the Knights, while Cristianna Boggs finished with 12.

The Knights were unable to make it two in a row on Saturday, though, as Bucyrus pulled away to take a 51-29 decision. Farley was the top scorer for Northmor again, scoring 11 points in the contest.

Bowling

In the recent Victory Lane High School warm-up tournament, the Cardington girls and Galion boys took victory in the six-team event.

The Lady Pirates finished with a team total of 2488 to top Northmor by 21 pins (2467). Highland was third with 2381, while Crestline, Shelby and Galion followed. Laynee Wilson of Cardington was the top individual bowler with 535 pins. Northmor’s Chloe Meier had 463 to lead the Knights.

In the boys’ competition, Galion had a team total of 3382, while Highland was second with 3047. Cardington followed with 2465 and Crestline, Shelby and Northmor rounded out the competition.
