Highland clinched at least a share of the KMAC title with a 28-7 win at East Knox Friday. With one game left, the Scots hold a one-game lead over Danville.
Both teams scored in the first quarter, with the Scots holding an 8-7 lead after getting a four-yard scoring run by Jack Weaver and a two-point pass from Reese Weissenfluh to Isaiah Stoneburner. Highland then added to their lead with scoring runs of four and 17 yards by Josh Cantrell in the second quarter. Cantrell added a two-point run to make the score 22-7 at the break. In the third quarter, Jarin Vasquez scored on a three-yard run to provide the final margin.
Brody Matthews ran for 106 yards in the game, while Weaver added 71, Cantrell had 68 and Vasquez finished with 57. Weissenfluh competed four passes for 79 yards, with Stoneburner catching two for 45.
Northmor cruised past Centerburg by a 49-0 margin on Friday, taking a 35-0 lead at the half and not looking back.
Demetrius Johnson was instrumental in the win, as he ran for five touchdowns and passed for a sixth. In the first quarter, he ran for scores of four and 85 yards and hooked up with Conan Becker for a 42-yard touchdown through the air.
Johnson then added touchdowns of four and three yards in the second quarter and tallied one of seven yards in the third. Hunter Mariotti scored in the fourth quarter on a three-yard run, while Kyle Kegley was perfect on seven extra point tries.
Johnson finished with 225 yards on the ground and 55 through the air. Becker had 44 rushing yards and 42 receiving.
Mount Gilead Indians
Mount Gilead struggled against Danville on Friday, suffering a 56-14 loss.
The Blue Devils scored three times in the first quarter to take a 21-0 lead, before MG opened the second period with a three-yard pass from Seth Young to Mason Mollohan to get on the board.
Unfortunately for the Indians, Danville tallied three second-quarter touchdowns to lead 42-6 at the break and then added two more scores in the second half before MG got a six-yard touchdown run by Tim Brower and a two-point pass from Young to Mollohan.
Young completed 14 passes for 131 yards in the game, with Brower catching seven for 52 yards and Mollohan tallying four catches for 39. On the ground, Brower had 78 yards and Trimmer added 50.
