Highland overcame a game Fredericktown squad on Friday to take a 36-25 road win.
Reese Weissenfluh connected with Tate Tobin for an 11-yard touchdown and Tobin added a two-point run to boost the Scots to an 8-6 lead after the first quarter. Jack Weaver tallied a pair of rushing touchdowns (seven and 17 yards) to push the Highland advantage to a 22-18 margin by the half. The team also got a two-point pass from Weissenfluh to Isaiah Stoneburner.
In the third quarter, the Scots went up 30-18 on a five-yard run by Brody Matthews and conversion run by Tobin. The Freddies got within a 30-25 margin late in the fourth quarter, but Highland finished the game with a 35-yard run by Tate Tobin to put six more points on the board.
Weaver had a huge day for the Scots, running for 313 yards, while Matthews added 99 more on the ground. Weissenfluh completed all three passes he attempted for 22 yards.
Mount Gilead Indians
Mount Gilead fought back from a slow start, but could not quite catch up to host Centerburg in a 35-24 loss on Friday.
While Tim Brower scored on a 53-yard fumble recovery and Mason Mollohan received a two-point pass from Seth Young, the Indians still trailed 21-8 after the first quarter of play. Young would hit Mollohan for an 11-yard scoring pass in the second quarter to bring MG within a seven-point margin, which is how it would stay going into the final period.
In the fourth, Young would connect with Mollohan again, this time for a 53-yard scoring pass. Scott Page added the extra point to tie the game. However, the Trojans immediately responded with their second kickoff return for a score to regain the lead.
MG battled back to get a 27-yard field goal from Page and had the ball with the chance to go ahead, but Centerburg put an end to the scoring by returning an interception for a touchdown.
Young threw for 186 yards, with Mollohan catching five for 107 yards. The team also got 34 yards on the ground from Hunter Trimmer.
Cardington Pirates
Host Danville topped Cardington by a 41-6 on Friday night. No further information was available.
