The Mount Gilead boys’ track team finished second in the Division III regional track and field meet hosted by Fairfield Union.

In the meet, which ran Wednesday and Friday, MG tallied 69 points — merely two shy of champion Grandview Heights. Northmor finished seventh with 33.5 points. In the girls’ meet, MG was 12th with 23, Cardington took 20th with 12.5 and Northmor ran 32nd with 4.5.

The Indian boys were paced by a pair of regional champions. Austin Hallabrin took the 800 in 1:54.48, while Jonah Barnett claimed first in the 200 with a time of 22.12.

Hallabrin also teamed with Liam Dennis, Nicholas Weiss and Brandon Stevens to finish second in the 1600-meter relay in 3:26.59. Stevens also qualified for the state meet in the 400, finishing third in 50.72.

The 800-meter relay of Drake McCallen, Barnett, Dustin Fraizer and Stevens ran fifth in 1:32.47 to finish one place short of qualifying for the state meet; while the 400-meter team of McCallen, Barnett, Fraizer and Bryceton Gaines took sixth in 45.47. Barnett also was seventh in the 100 in 11.15, while McCallen took seventh in the high jump by clearing 6’.

Casey White placed fifth in the 1600 with a time of 4:36.9. Liam Dennis placed fifth in the 300 hurdles (41.13) and seventh in the 110 hurdles in 15.95, while Connor Page took seventh in the 300s in 42.17 and eighth in the 110s in 16.11.

Also, Nicholas Weiss placed eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:01.05 and Kyle White ran 14th in the 3200.

James Walker had a big day for the Northmor boys on Friday, advancing to state in three events. He teamed with Demetrius Johnson, Calvin Komer and Alec Moore to take third in the 1600-meter relay in 3:28.53 and, individually, placed fourth in the high jump after winning a jump-off (6’1”) and also was fourth in the 300 hurdles (41.1).

Kolton Smith also moved on, finishing third in the 110 hurdles in 15.17. He also finished eighth in the high jump, clearing 5’10”.

For Mount Gilead’s Lady Indians, Olivia Brewer moved on to state in three events. She took second in the 100 with a time of 12.19 and placed third in the 200 in 25.82. She also teamed with Jessica Brewer, Bridgette Millisor and Corrin Watts to finish third in the 800-meter relay in 1:49.13.

Baylee Hack added a sixth-place finish in the 3200 with a time of 11:37.35. Micah James ran ninth in the 1600, while Darcy Picker was 12th in the 800 and Savannah Randall went for 12th place in the discus.

Cardington had three girls place in the field events Friday. Lilly Grooms tied for fifth in the pole vault by clearing 9’, while Sage Brannon was sixth in the long jump (16’3.5”) and Nadia Kerman took the same place in the discus with an effort of 116’8”.

For the Lady Knights of Northmor, Hope Miracle tied for fifth in the pole vault (9’) and Brooke Bennett placed eighth in the 400 in 1:02.1. Also, Jessica Duryea was 10th in the 1600 and Julianna Ditullio finished 15th in the long jump.
