The Northmor girls’ bowling team earned a berth in the Division II state meet by placing third in Thursday’s district competition.

Of the 14 teams competing, the top three earned a trip to state. Northmor finished with a total of 3376 to claim that spot by 174 pins over fourth-place Fredericktown. Highland finished seventh with 3133 pins, while Cardington took eighth with 3131. The Pirates did boast an individual qualifier, though, in Gabreaelle Arnold.

Northmor was paced by Shelbey Lilly, who finished eighth overall with a three-game total of 528. Also, Caitlin Adkins finished 27th with 474, Sara Drumm took 38th with 451 and Chloe Meier rolled 43rd with 445. Both Alexis Yarnell and Samantha Grogg also rolled games.

Highland’s top performer was Halie O’Leary, who finished 13th with a total of 505. Also, Sophia Thompson (456) was 37th, Hailey Howard (448) tied for 41st and Autumn Burson (419) finished 57th. Maddie Chaffee also competed in the meet.

For Cardington, Arnold finished sixth overall and took the third and final individual berth by rolling 540 over three games. Also, Laynee Wilson (492) was 21st, Addie Wilhelm (443) finished 45th and Makenzie Blake (421) was 56th. Laney Sherbourne also competed at districts.

Gilead Christian’s Emily Rich finished 19th with a total of 495 pins, while Mount Gilead’s Madison Noble took 31st with 467.

Local boys’ bowlers saw their season end on Thursday. The top two teams advanced to state, while Highland finished fifth with 3491 pins and Cardington took 10th with 3377.

For Highland, Dana Hicks led the team with a three-game total of 596, good for 10th place. Joey Bennett (538) was 30th. Also, Ben Rinehart, Wade Adkins, Jordan Grizzle, Zach Debord and Brennen McLaughlin all bowled at least one game.

Cardington was led by Dallas Crum, who finished 23rd with 553 pins. Austin Edgell (548) placed 26th, Blake Clapham (467) was 54th, Matt Craig (447) was 60th and Mason Travino (380) took 71st.

Competing as an individual, Sam Eichorn of Northmor placed 64th with a total of 420 pins.
