A scoring explosion in the second quarter paced Cardington to a 62-27 win at East Knox on Friday.

The Pirates only led 13-9 after the first quarter, but outscored their opponents 22-5 in the second to move in front by a 35-14 margin. They would then take the third 13-7 and the fourth by a 14-6 score to continue pulling away in the league win.

Both Casey Bertke and Paige Clinger scored 14 in the game, while Kyndall Spires added 13 and Sage Brannon connected three times from long range on her way to scoring 11.

Highland Scots

A slow start was costly to Highland on Friday when they lost 42-33 to Fredericktown in a road contest.

The Freddies jumped out to a 12-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Highland played them equally the rest of the way, with both teams scoring 30 over the course of the remaining three periods, but they could not overcome that start.

Northmor Knights

Northmor claimed a big league win on Friday, traveling to Centerburg and taking a 45-44 decision.

The Knights controlled the early stages of the game, leading 16-11 after the first quarter and 29-20 at the half. It was 38-27 after three quarters, but the Trojans fought back to nearly catch them in the fourth before Northmor prevailed.

Maddie Swihart tallied three three-pointers in scoring 15 points. Lydia Farley added nine.
