Donald G. Kelley, 1952 CHS graduate, who excelled in three sports during his high school career and went on to earn awards during his collegiate career, will be inducted posthumously into the Cardington-Lincoln High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Dec. 29.

Kelley will become the first Cardington High School athlete from classes before 1970 to be inducted into the HOF.

The ceremony will be conducted at approximately 7 p.m. between the junior varsity and varsity basketball games with River Valley High School. Induction ceremony will be conducted by a member of the Athletic Department.

Kelley played three years of basketball, baseball and football at Cardington, winning 11 letters in three major sports, was named All-State in basketball and won an All-State honorable mention in football.

He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1956 and during his college career he played basketball for the Buckeyes for four years and was team captain for one year. He also played first base on the OSU baseball team and was named to the All Big Ten and All American baseball teams and received the Potter Rummaker Award for outstanding senior offensive baseball player.

In 1956-57 he was assistant coach of the OSU freshman cagers and in 1957-58 he played professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians.

He was head coach at Marietta College for 11 years, was assistant coach at Iowa State and University of Missouri and later was athletic director at Illinois State. He was also Athletic Commissioner for the 14 universities in Pennsylvania.

Don passed away in Jacksonville, Florida in 1999. He was 65 years old.
