Meadow Links Golf Academy was the site of the 25th annual State Special Olympics Golf Tournament. Morrow County was represented well by the five Unified teams that competed last week.
On Tuesday, Sept. 14, the locals traveled to Northern Cincinnati to compete with teams from around the State. Unified teams are made up of one Special Olympics golfer and one non-Special Olympian or Partner. The format is to alternate shots until the ball is holed out. This year, all five teams medaled in their various divisions.
The team of Glenn Lavan and Vinal Terry got gold for their efforts on the day with a 49. In their division Cody Cover and Don Barchus brought back silver for their 49. Larry and Jason Pryor shot 51 and won bronze, as did the team of Dennis Payton and Andi Updike with a 54. The other Bronze medal winners were John Higgins and his partner John Kinney, shooting 57.
Again this year, thank yous go to Sacred Hearts Knights of Columbus of Cardington, Mount Gilead Masonic Lodge 206, and the Mount Gilead Presbyterian Church, for their benefit breakfasts. These groups are wonderful supporters of Morrow County Special Olympic athletes and have been for many years.
Without the support of our volunteer Partners, who give of their time and efforts to help our local Special Olympic golfers, these events would not happen. Also, Pine Lakes has provided a great place to play, practice and prepare for Area and State competition.
