Four Morrow County School Districts were represented at the Morrow County Community Center Sweetcorn 5K last Saturday. Two runners were in from out of state and two of the gold sponsors had teams in the run.

Northmor’s Mostyn Evans captured first overall in 20:17, Highland High School runners followed closely with Bailey Damron second in 20:18. Collin Kipp came in third with 21:20 and Christian Buchholz fourth in 22:06.

Lexington seventh grader Kaydence Hines placed fifth overall and first among the girls with 22.24. Cardington’s Bailey Shafer was eighth and second for girls in 25:24; Mount Gilead Middle School’s Emily Hanft was third in girls in 26:12.

Dr. Matthew Hintz placed sixth in the race in 23:10. Caleb Carder of Highland got seventh place with 23:27, and Matthew Griffith placed tenth in 26:17.

Kassi Wright placed 16th to achieve first for women over 20 in 28:45 and Kylene Beck was second for women with 35:01.

Jennifer Kimmey was in from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida visiting her parents and came in 17th in 28:58. Tobbi Justice came in to visit her family from Pasadena, Maryland and was happy with her 25th place finish in 34:50.

Patrick Kelly was in 11th with 26:40, Nick Arndt was 12th in 26:43, Morgan Wilhelm was 13th in 27:55, Kevin St. John was 14th in 28:05, Mike Beck was 15th in 28:44, Kassi Wright was 16th in 28:45, Megan Redd was 18th in 30:19, Shawn Wilhelm was 19th in 31:56 and Marvin Hintz was in 20th place in 32:14.

Gold Sponsor, Morrow County Hospital was well represented by Dr. Matthew Hintz and his dad, Marvin Hintz and Lubrication Specialties, Inc. had a team of four walking as well as a couple runners. Silver sponsors were: Ag Credit, Edward Jones Investments, Andy Bower, Grill & Chill, Griffith and Brininger, Help Line, Morrow Family Health Center, Dr. James Smithson, DDS, Dr. Allen M. Stojkovic, and Helpline. Other Contributors were Cornerstone Restaurant, Drug Mart, and Spirit Blasters.

MCCC Staff member Tish Lilly and her family helped coordinate the MCCC 5K Run both this year and in October last year. Lilly recalled that it was a very rainy and cold day for the race last fall. They were pleased with the turnout last week and happy that the weather cooperated with sunshine and a light breeze.

Lilly said plans are already underway for the Morrow County Community Center to host the Second Sweetcorn 5K Run again next year in July.
