Ideal summer weather greeted visitors to the annual Taste of Country event held at the Mount Gilead State Park Saturday. Entertainment and food were enjoyed with the highlight being the annual roast hog dinner when 285 people dined. The breakfast on Saturday morning was enjoyed by 310 persons and on Sunday morning by 225.
Winners in the hog calling contest were Crosby Anderson, ages 1-4; Liam Manning, 5-8; Caleb Anderson, 9-14 and Penny Cranston, ages 15 and up.
The longest pig tail contest winners were ages 1-5, Isabella Jones, first and Alex Sampson-Davies, second; Sheridan Jones, won the 6-14 category and Karen Sauer, the 15 and older.
The Corn Hole contest was won by Kenny Pugh, of Huron and Nate Sauer of Elyria, taking first place; Dec Rose, of Marengo and Robin LaRoche, Edison, second and Ben Justice of Toledo and B J Justice of Marion, third.
All of the events in the park were hosted by the VIP’s (The Volunteers in the Park). Speaking on their behalf, Ken Krumnow thanked all of those who came to both the breakfasts and the Taste of Country event.
